1986-87 Season Port Vale 1 Blackpool 6

I remember this match, I went with a mate from Lytham and a Blackpool fan from uni - even he said, the result massively flattered them that day - Steward, hit the next every time he touched the ball. If I remember right the stats said Blackpool Shots on Target 6 Shots off target 0...we laughed about it for ages (laughed may be the wrong word).
...and a winning team played here.

0-6 is our worst league defeat for 48 years

Didn't we lose 0-6 at home to Blackpool, back in the eighties? I'm sure we did, because I was there. I'm pretty certain that i) we didn't score; ii) they didn't score a measly five.

The last home match I missed. Haven't dared miss another in case it happens again!

Hah! So it was YOUR fault!

Yep, all my fault.

Anyone want to buy me a season ticket to make sure it doesn't happen next year?

Mind you, I was there yesterday, so may be it wasn't my fault, then again, we did buy some Maynard's Midget Gems (first time ever) for consumption on the car journey down to Swindon instead of the usual Wine Gums or Sours. Memo to self: Never buy Midget Gems again.

"Well I've seen us let in 6 in the first half at Burnley, and go on to lose 7-0 Sage, so I think you need to check your stats. And Rudgie was the coach then!!"

But in fact the late John McGrath was still the manager - I know 'cos In was there and interviewed him wioth Elton Welsby of Granada TV after the game.

We included Les Pollard in defence which may have had some bearing on the result.

Do you mean Gary Pollard, Stephen? He was to defending what King Herod was to child welfare.

Indeed, Eddie, it was Gary Pollard of that ilk. Rivalled Ian Osborne (1977)
and Neil Wilkinson (1978-79) in the Defenders' Hall of Shame!
