I'm seriously thinking of investing in a new PC. My current one is 8 years old and slow and noisy and only has one working USB port (there were only two to start off with).

Can I get a decent one for £500 or so? -- and if so, where's a trustworthy local place, or interwebty place?
The myth of the free man in the un-free world.
And bleurgh, too.

£500?? easy!

question is, what would you actually want to use it for? you may be able to spend half the price and get something more than suitable!

the immster, i've got a pc for sale, just so happens it's selling price is £500 or so. The techy aspects are it has a keyboard and a screen so it's got all the stuff you need

PC's nowadays (this century) are very cheap and for basic stuff somone such as your lowly self may think they need a computer then the cheapest available will be more than satisfactory for porn browsing and spreadsheets to work out how many more days of care you have left.

High spec pc's are only really required if you're in to gaming, video and large photo editing but for office apps and web browsing owt should do.

Have ye thought about getting a laptop, they're increasingly popular this century, take up no space at home and can quickly be tucked away instead of having a sprawling beast of a machine and cables running in every direction.

Is this to replace the old trusty wireless?

You can get a Windows XP machine with a DVD writer for less than a hundred quid on Ebay IMMO, usually recovered from big corporations. We bought both our kids one and they have been great. As Der Fuhrer says, if you only want to look at gay porn and run basic programmes it'll be more than OK.

I know where you can get a copy of MS Office and a version of NOD32 AV with about a 1000 years on a trial, should you wish too like.
