So is the Beeb

Also, Drogba. That sounds nasty. Isn't that what happened to Anyon a few years abo, or was it his knee?

A few days to go then - predicition time.

England 2-0 USA

Rooney double.

Crowd - full house plus three vultures and an antelope.

Gezpun - "Three lions rampant in the land of lions, even though I'm not actually there taking photos. I applied for press rights but the FA in their infinite wisdom wouldn't grant it to me. I'm not bitter though, not at all."

I'm hopeless with this patriotism lark...I never take much interest in England FC. This time however, I actively want England out asap. I really couldn't bear seeing the likes of Terry, Lampard, Ashley Cole and Looney being held in the same esteem as Bobby Moore/Charlton and co for years to come.

Am I alone in this?
...and a winning team played here.

What makes you think people like Charlton and Moore were intrinsically better people?

Couldn't it be that you just know more about the likes of current England team?

And surely football is just about what you do on the pitch.

Imagine if they won the World Cup and were knighted, Sir Ashley Cole or Sir Wayne Rooney!?!

You're ignoring the facts Imm. The Bobby's and Nobby's were gentlemen, this lot apart from him in goal with the fro, are not.

If football was just about what you do on the pitch, then how do you explain the success of Subbuteo and Rigsbyworld?

I'm not the biggest patriot in the world, either but I think it's ok to just get caught up in things like this: enjoy the moment, it doesn't have to be complicated, you don't have to weigh up all the pros and cons, just give yourself over to the emotional ride of it.

There are elements to the world cup I don't like - rampant commercialisation etc. but at the end of the day, Ron, it's about supporting a football team.

For 90 minutes, it's OK to care.

As ever Imm...you make sense of this crazy, mad, complex world of ours.

Come on England!

Is it too much to hope they'll be less in evidence when South Africa aren't playing? Yes, I thought so.

Anyway

Tshabalala - great name, great pass, great goal!

Great goal for Nelson Mandela United and as Eric says, great pass by Archbishop Tutu for Mandela himself to run through and score. A glorious goal for a tremendous team who absolutely will make it to the semis, at the least.

Just a shame that those mother-murdering genetically-modified-speed-freak-mouse-breeding scumbag apartheid-loving racist Mexicans went and equalised against the team I have in the sweep I have supported fervently all my life.

Yahh, fab first goal of the tournament. And yahhh, those hooters are so damn annoying. Just watched the France Uruguay gam, which was pretty dull - it sounds like there wasmuch more excitement in the first game. I fancy South Africa will make the quarter finals with th terrific support and obvious team spirit alone.
This is typical. Absolutely typical... of the kind of... ARSE I have to put up with from you people. You ponce in here expecting to be waited on hand and foot, while I'm trying to run a hotel here. Have you any idea of how much there is to do? Do you ever think of that? Of course not, you're all too busy sticking your noses into every corner, poking around for things to complain about, aren't you? Well let me tell you something - this is exactly how Nazi Germany started. A lot of layabouts with nothing better to do than to cause trouble. Well I've had fifteen years of pandering to the likes of you, and I've had enough. I've had it. Come on, pack your bags and get out.

Not the best result then, but it wasn't that bad.

Rooney is far from world class on that display though.

Upstaged by his strike partner who was superb all evening. All in all not a bad start against a gritty American team who I feel will do well in the tournament.
I was a little surprised that Cole didn't start as I think he brings a bit more to the table than both Lennon and Milner.

Lets hope that King recovers in time for next Friday as I thought Carragher was off the pace particularly when Altidore brushed past him only for Green to make up for his error with a great save.
We are where we are................... until next season

C'mon now, say his name

It's all apart of your treatment

I thought we gave the ball away in midfield far too often and too easily - anyone know what the stats were?
What about shots on target too, we had lots of chances but we never made the most of any of them rarely really testing there keeper apart from shots down his throat

I see ITV did it again - people watching in HD went to adverts and needless to say Gerrard scored and they missed it. I watched the opening ceremony on Friday which they claimed was exclusive and before the end they went to adverts, I turned over to BBC news and continued to watch it there instead

If they can't do without adverts for the length of a live event they simply should not be allowed to cover it. I stopped watching F1 when it went to ITV because of that and have never really got back into it

ITV - Utter shite
