Ageing Parent Dilemma

Posted by JonD in JonD's Blog, 27 March 2013 - - - - - - · 154 views

I met this Turkish chap a few years ago through work. One of the first things he did after he'd been working for six months or so was to buy s house in Turkey for his parents to live in.

"When I eventually go back to Turkey" he told me, "I will live in the house with them and care for them".

How bloody awesome is that?

My mum is...

Today is the glorious day Qatar began selling Pork. (in a special building in the middle of the desert which is also the place you have to go to get alcohol, mind.)

There is 100 quids worth of delicious Dutch pig in the freezer downstairs.

Not quite sure why I've started a blog just to mention this but it's the biggest thing to happen to Qatar since...

Is Vale dead to me?

Here we are, 10 games into the new season.  A season which offered much hope to many fans due to the second coming of the Messiah, Micky Adams - except for just me it seems.  So far we have beaten teams that are very poor, Barnet, Accrington Stanley and Plymouth, sides which will struggle to retain football league status come next May.  We mugged 3 points...

Lady - put the crisp down and step away from the bag!

Posted by IMM in Diary of a dreary life, 19 September 2011 - - - - - - · 262 views

It's rare these days I have the sudden and uncontrollable urge to kill but she managed to provoke it in me in about 5 minutes.

I was on a train, she was sitting across the aisle and just behind me. The "she" in this instance was a woman of later middle years, escorting her elderly mother somewhere or other. She had a deep tan that spoke of long...

Swans and Locks

We know this bloody ridiculous challenge is going to be tough, we know that by how tough it has been paddling around Trentham Lake, but we needed to broaden our horizons, try different routes, different bits of water.

And locks.

So we took the boat (now christened Debbie Jane after our respective partners, as it won’t go down...

Afghan Blog Part 3

In 2008, whilst on a battlefield tour with some recruits from the Infantry Training Centre, Catterick, I got speaking to a British World War 2 veteran. He told me that during his time in the Army, the one thing they couldn’t teach him and his friends was how to get up and move forward when the rounds of the enemy were landing on and around their position....

Its No Easy Ride In Business!

After many a run in on this very forum due to my capitalist views I would just like to share my weekend with you all...

It started in the middle of last week.  After pestering my customer for several months with regards to projected stock levels for a new product we are making for them, and may I add, being succesfully ignored they suddenly decide that...

Kid'S Sports

Well, what is this bloggy thing?  Reading others on here it appears to be an opportunity to ramble on about something.

Does anyone know what Twitter is?

Anyway, I digress from what is my topic of my first ever blog.  Namely Kid's Sports.

I was watching BBC1 News on Saturday morning on account of there being nothing but adverts on every other channel...

Fast Food

I've been a bit ill this week, with a stomach bug - irony heaped upon indiginity - and I'm knackered and feeling a bit odd. Don't worry, I'm eating again now, but it was a few days of plain bread in between visits to my trap. While we're on traps, does anyone else have a specific toilet they use at work? I did, until recently, when I...

Day 1

Posted by somebird in We just ran out of legs., 16 February 2007 - - - - - - · 223 views

Been thinking what stuff to put in my diary blog thingie, but considering my diaries from my late teens were dull (and I had a life then) I don't hold out much hope.

Bin shopping, read my email, and then set about finding who is the most uninspiring commentator in English football.  Thought perhaps Alan Shearer was up there, but then decided on David...

All Work And No Play

Corporate Enviroments - How on earth do these huge companies make money when you see some of the ways they waste it? All the red tape and politics involved, all the documentation for anything and everything. No common sense to be used, just follow the documentation.

Why is it that managers don't talk English (this goes back to the bullshit bingo...
